Evaluation Question 4

Evaluation Question 3

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

After we had finished filming sections of our video we showed it to the rest of our class so that we could get some feedback. Having other people watch our video allowed us to get a fresh opinion on it. Because we were working with it every day we looked at it in a different way to other people, we didn’t pick up on something’s that they did.
At first we filmed the girl walking into the school from behind through one of the corridors in our school. The following shot was her walking through another corridor, however these corridors weren’t actually anywhere near each other in the building. We thought that this wouldn’t matter because if you didn’t know the school then you wouldn’t be able to tell that they aren’t near each other.
However when we showed the opening to some other students this was something that they pointed out, saying that it didn’t look right because they can’t help but think about the corridors.
We went back and cut out the first shot of her walking though the first corridor and replaced it with a shot using the other corridor. This allowed us to match the action of the two shots fixing the continuity making it look more realistic.

The students thought how our video changes setting from the corridor straight to the classroom didn’t look right. It was described as ‘jumpy’. They said that they felt like a chunk in the middle of the two was missing, as though we have cut it out.
We decided to film me walking towards the door of the classroom and pushing open the door. This connects the two scenes making it clearer that the girl was on her way to the classroom.
Once we had filmed the performance footage of Liv in the classroom we imported it onto the computer so that we could watch it back. We did several shoots of her so that we had a variety to choose from, this ensured that we had enough footage so we didn’t have to re-film it.
We had quite a lot of footage to choose from so it was hard to decide which was best to use. We got some students to watch through parts that we couldn’t decide between. They pointed out that the shots that looked better were the ones where Liv is doing the strongest actions. We then went back through our footage and added more of the classroom footage cutting between the different shots to include as many of the parts where Liv’s actions are strong. This made our video look more professional as the performing was stronger.

We created a survey for people to fill out after watching our video.
Liv left our group before we had finished filming, therefore we were not able to use her to film any new footage. We had planned to film a scene in the classroom of me and he performing, however we were not able to do this because she wouldn’t come in to film.

So to fill this space we had to use footage of Liv that we already had, which was only the performance in the classroom. This meant that at the end of our video we have a big chunk of performance footage. We tried to make the most out of what we had by cutting to lots of different angles, this made it more interesting to watch than keeping to one angle.
However this is something that people commented on in our survey, they said that she could have moved around more and also that there should be more narrative at the end to break it up.
This is something that I agree with and also think about our video. If we were to re-make our video then the ending is something that I would change, I would break up the performance shots by adding in more narrative. I would also film some performance shots of Liv in a different location, possibly in the corridor to mix it up a bit more. Also I would re-film the classroom performance shots of Liv, having her move around the classroom and stand up with more energy.

Evaluation Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

NEED TO ADD PHOTOS

We looked at common themes between all 3 products of pop genre and noticed that they all had an upbeat colourful feel and look to them. We wanted to incorporate this theme into our work and also wanted to make a clear link between our magazine advert and the digi pack. We thought that having a colour theme throughout would create a clear link between them. We chose to have red as the colour, we had all the writing in the digi pack red and a red banner across the front of the advert.

Because of our target audience being teenagers, we chose to use me and Liv for our main actors in all 3 products. We thought that this would be the best as we are the same age as our target audience. Having a teenager as the main character in all 3 of our products makes them work together emphasising the teenage feel, allowing the audience to relate and for the video to feel more personal to them.

We wanted to give our artist a strong image and which would create a stronger impact on the media industry for her. We recreated a Jessie J song, Jessie portrays herself to be a strong independent woman. To try and recreate the song as best as we could we thought that our artist should also have this image. Jessie is a strong character; this is shown by the way that she wears bright colours and bold prints. She is also very loud and expressive and is known for being opinionated. We used a bold pattern coloured top in the advert. We knew that we wanted to use a bight patterned top, however we specifically chose to use this top because it fits in with the red theme that we chose to run through our digi pack making it all link together. We used a bold floral pattern top in our video and to make her stand out even more we had all the other characters in our video dressed in block colours. For our digi pack we used Aztec pattern leggings. Having pattern clothing run through all 3 of our products made it a lot stronger and more noticeable than if it were in just one of them, making it a noticeable theme.
Aztec pattern is also big in teenage fashion at the moment, because of this we wanted to have me wearing Aztec pattern for the ancillary. We chose to use Aztec clothing for our digi pack and advert; this was so that it would appeal to the teenagers as this is clothing and look that they like.

We also carried out the theme of a strong artist through the actions of ‘Livvi B’. The images that we used for the digi pack and advert are quite bold, in the way that they are bright and clear and also the poses. We set up the photo studio with a white screen and lighting to ensure that our photos are well lit and clear. We researched some images of Jessie J from photo shoots and in a lot of them she had exaggerated facial expressions, we also used exaggerated facial expressions to add emotion to our photos.

Challenging Conventions
We recreated the original video of Jessie J’s Whos Laughing Now video. It is a typical pop genre video fitting a lot of the conventions.
The video doesn’t challenge any conventions of the pop genre therefore neither does our video. We didn’t change this because we liked the fact that the video used so many conventions of a pop genre.

Creating The Digi Pack

Here are some print screens that I took while I was making the digi pack.
I don't have much experience with photo shop so I had to have a teacher talk me through how to work it at first. I was then able to work on the photos of me that we took for the digi pack. I was working on the back cover, we had decided that we wanted a track list on the back cover. I chose an image that I was able to add text around with the text being a reasonable size so that you can read it.

I lightened up the image on photo shop so that it looks clearer and more vibrant.
CDs that are sold in shops all need to have a bar code on them so that they can be scanned through the till. We wanted to make our digi pack look as realistic and professional as possible so I added in a bar code image that i found off the internet.
