Evaluation Question 3

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

After we had finished filming sections of our video we showed it to the rest of our class so that we could get some feedback. Having other people watch our video allowed us to get a fresh opinion on it. Because we were working with it every day we looked at it in a different way to other people, we didn’t pick up on something’s that they did.
At first we filmed the girl walking into the school from behind through one of the corridors in our school. The following shot was her walking through another corridor, however these corridors weren’t actually anywhere near each other in the building. We thought that this wouldn’t matter because if you didn’t know the school then you wouldn’t be able to tell that they aren’t near each other.
However when we showed the opening to some other students this was something that they pointed out, saying that it didn’t look right because they can’t help but think about the corridors.
We went back and cut out the first shot of her walking though the first corridor and replaced it with a shot using the other corridor. This allowed us to match the action of the two shots fixing the continuity making it look more realistic.

The students thought how our video changes setting from the corridor straight to the classroom didn’t look right. It was described as ‘jumpy’. They said that they felt like a chunk in the middle of the two was missing, as though we have cut it out.
We decided to film me walking towards the door of the classroom and pushing open the door. This connects the two scenes making it clearer that the girl was on her way to the classroom.
Once we had filmed the performance footage of Liv in the classroom we imported it onto the computer so that we could watch it back. We did several shoots of her so that we had a variety to choose from, this ensured that we had enough footage so we didn’t have to re-film it.
We had quite a lot of footage to choose from so it was hard to decide which was best to use. We got some students to watch through parts that we couldn’t decide between. They pointed out that the shots that looked better were the ones where Liv is doing the strongest actions. We then went back through our footage and added more of the classroom footage cutting between the different shots to include as many of the parts where Liv’s actions are strong. This made our video look more professional as the performing was stronger.

We created a survey for people to fill out after watching our video.
Liv left our group before we had finished filming, therefore we were not able to use her to film any new footage. We had planned to film a scene in the classroom of me and he performing, however we were not able to do this because she wouldn’t come in to film.

So to fill this space we had to use footage of Liv that we already had, which was only the performance in the classroom. This meant that at the end of our video we have a big chunk of performance footage. We tried to make the most out of what we had by cutting to lots of different angles, this made it more interesting to watch than keeping to one angle.
However this is something that people commented on in our survey, they said that she could have moved around more and also that there should be more narrative at the end to break it up.
This is something that I agree with and also think about our video. If we were to re-make our video then the ending is something that I would change, I would break up the performance shots by adding in more narrative. I would also film some performance shots of Liv in a different location, possibly in the corridor to mix it up a bit more. Also I would re-film the classroom performance shots of Liv, having her move around the classroom and stand up with more energy.
